THE BUSINESS CASE

The story in focus

SAP said at its SAP Connect keynote that Joule Work, its AI engagement interface, is rolling out to all customers this month. The company also said it has built more than 20 Joule Assistants and over 200 Joule Agents since May and aims to exceed 400 agents by year-end.

  • SAP is rolling out Joule Work to all customers this month, according to CEO Christian Klein.
  • SAP has created more than 20 Joule Assistants and over 200 Joule Agents since May 2026.
  • SAP announced SAP Pay and a planned acquisition of workforce-intelligence startup TechWolf.

Joule Work and the Autonomous Enterprise

SAP CEO Christian Klein used the SAP Connect keynote in Las Vegas to present what the company calls the Autonomous Enterprise, a concept it introduced at SAP Sapphire in May 2026. Klein said Joule Work, described as a new user interface for AI, is being rolled out to all customers this month. It is organized around conversations, spaces and Joule Studio, where customers can extend Joule or build agents for their own processes.

Klein said SAP's business and data context, including the SAP Knowledge Graph, is intended to keep the agents from guessing. He also said SAP's roughly 110,000 employees already use Joule for hundreds of thousands of tasks daily and that the company is seeing productivity gains of more than 20% in central functions such as HR, finance and procurement. Those figures were provided by SAP and were not independently verified in the source.

Agents, platform and governance

The SAP Autonomous Suite initially covers finance, procurement, supply chain, human resources and customer experience. Klein said SAP has created more than 20 Joule Assistants and over 200 Joule Agents since Sapphire and is aiming for more than 400 agents by year-end, a target rather than a delivered count.

Manoj Swaminathan, president and chief product officer of the suite, described the SAP Business AI Platform as infrastructure for building, contextualizing and governing agents. Joule Studio offers access to more than 70 models, SAP said.

Chief Security Officer Marielle Ehrmann said every agent should have a verified owner, a risk tier and scoped access rights. She cited a statistic that 83% of enterprises use AI daily while only 13% have real visibility into it, without identifying the study behind it.

Customers and product announcements

SAP brought customers on stage, including Novartis, which it said is piloting Joule sourcing agents for bid analysis and negotiation support, and Morgan Foods, which described a supply-chain transformation built on SAP S/4HANA and SAP Integrated Business Planning. Nestlé and PwC also appeared.

SAP announced SAP Pay, an embedded payments service intended to execute and reconcile supplier payments once an invoice is approved, and said it plans to acquire TechWolf, a Belgian workforce-intelligence startup. Both are announcements; the acquisition is planned, not completed, according to the source.

Is Joule Work available to all SAP customers now?

SAP CEO Christian Klein said Joule Work is being rolled out to all customers this month, so availability is in progress rather than fully completed, according to the company.
