THE BUSINESS CASE

The story in focus

Anthropic's S-1, filed with the SEC on 26 October 2026, says more than half of customers spending at least $100,000 a year now use both the Claude platform and a first-party app, up from about 30% at the end of last year. The filing also cites risks around cloud partners and customer concentration.

  • More than half of customers spending at least $100,000 annually use both the Claude platform and a first-party app, versus about 30% at the end of last year, per the S-1.
  • As of 30 September, Anthropic recorded more than 11,900 customers spending at least $100,000, including about 250 spending $10 million or more.
  • Net revenue retention stood at about 900% at the end of the third quarter, the filing states.
  • First-half 2026 revenue was $16.3 billion, up from $1.2 billion a year earlier, according to the filing.

Cross-selling across products

Anthropic's S-1, filed with the SEC on Monday 26 October 2026, states that more than half of customers spending at least $100,000 annually now use both the Claude platform and a first-party app such as Claude Code or Cowork. That compares with about 30% at the end of last year, TechCrunch reported.

The filing describes the company's approach as combining models, a developer platform and applications, with advances at one layer compounding across the others. It reports that in the third quarter, the highest-spending 5% of Claude Enterprise customers using Claude Code spent roughly 20 times as much per month as the average enterprise user who did not use the coding tool.

Revenue and retention

Anthropic reported first-half 2026 revenue of $16.3 billion, up from $1.2 billion in the same period a year earlier. Net revenue retention was about 900% as of the end of the third quarter, which the filing attributes to usage expansion as customers deploy Claude more broadly.

As of 30 September, the company counted more than 11,900 customers spending at least $100,000 annually, more than 1,900 spending $1 million or more, and about 250 spending $10 million or more.

The filing describes a joint go-to-market approach with AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure in which Anthropic holds the direct customer contract and pays each provider a fee.

Flagged risks

The S-1 flags that cloud partners are increasingly viewing Anthropic as a competitor, which the company says could make it harder to secure needed compute. It notes Amazon, Google and Microsoft may prioritise their own needs or rivals they have invested in.

Customer concentration is another listed risk. The filing warns that a significant reduction in spending by, or the loss of, one or more large customers could affect its business and results if not offset. Anthropic did not immediately respond to TechCrunch's request for comment.

What risks does Anthropic's S-1 flag despite its revenue growth?

The filing flags that cloud partners AWS, Google and Microsoft increasingly see Anthropic as a competitor, potentially complicating compute access, and warns that losing or reduced spending from large customers could hurt results absent offsets.
